The mission of the Mateo Academy of Self Defense is to build self-esteem, teach goal setting skills, create positive peer groups, promote asset development and to provide children, including those with special needs, with positive activities, role models and mentors.

The program is designed to instill positive behaviors through prevention and  intervention in an effort to combat juvenile crime, family violence, and negative culture differences.

Children and adults involved in Mateo Academy of Self Defense have shown they develop a closer relationship with family, country and God, make remarkable progress in their scholastic achievements, and gain a sense of pride in their community.
 
 

 
 
Mateo Academy of Self Defense, is the martial arts academy of the high desert. We have the only Certified Full Instructor Authorized to teach Jun Fan Gung Fu / Jeet Kune Do in the high desert and he is also a Guro in Maphilindo Silat & Madjapahit Martial Arts.

We offer classes in Muay Thai -Thai Boxing, Grappling, Filipino Martial Arts, Madjapahit / Maphilindo Silat, and Women’s Kickboxing. Sifu Sam Mateo, head instructor/owner, is certified under Guro/Sifu Dan Inosanto of the Inosanto Academy in Los Angeles.
 
 

 
We offer many forms of martial arts, including classes specifically set up for children, women and beginners. The Mateo Academy is a supporter of our community and believes in instilling strong morals and a healthy lifestyle to all of our students.
